Telefonica and Nokia have signed a regional partnership agreement, aimed at bringing educational content to remote schools across Latin America through the use of mobile technology. The partnership is expected to expand the Telefonica Foundation’s Pronino and EducaRed social programmes, focused on using information and communication technologies to improve the quality of education in the region.
The project implementation will be rolled out in Chile. This first implementation will combine Telefonica’s mobile broadband services with Nokia’s mobile software Nokia Education Delivery, to provide isolated schools in Chile with access to high quality educational content, including innovative content, tools and services for students, fathers and teachers via Educared.
The agreement will later be expanded to other Latin American countries, prioritizing schools where Pronino works. Under the terms of the agreement, the Telefonica Foundation will extend to the adoption of Nokia Data Gathering software within its Pronino program. The Telefonica Foundation plans to use Nokia’s technology to monitor and evaluate the impact of the programme using mobile devices instead of paper forms, to avoid duplication of data entry, enable faster decisions and reduce environmental impact.
