Ovi Store now allowing Re-Downloads

ovi Store n97 Earlier this month I told you all about an interview our Social Media group had at Nokia World with the Ovi Store Director Eric John, and showed you the video interview itself. If you watched this video, you would of noticed that one of our group questions was regarding the issue of Re-Downloads from the Ovi Store.

To give you an example of this senareo, basically, say you downloaded the facebook application to your N97, but for some reason you had to hard reset the device at some point later on, thus losing all your installed applications. You see, with downloaded applications from Ovi Store, you cannot save the .sis file on your PC to use at times like this, you have to re-download, and have to either send it to your phone via link using your pc, or download, and install via the Ovi Store directly on your device.

Now going back to the senareo, If you returned to the Ovi Store to re-download the facebook application, you would be faced with a greyed out “Download” option. This is because the Ovi Store identifies your device having already dowloaded this application. Thanks to the All About Symbian’s Steve Litchfield, we have come to know that this rollout is still underway, and at the moment, only Ovi Store Client version 1.05 (271) or above are currently allowing re-downloads. Well, it looks like Eric John was true to his word, and now, you are able to re-download applications from Ovi Store. Its a sure sign that there is indeed a lot of work going on behind the scenes at the Ovi Store, and this is a positive step in the right direction for the service.
