Last night, Dan Carter of WorldofNokia sent me a text to let me know, that he, and several other lucky Bloggers had been invited by WOM World Nokia to head off to Germany to visit the Carl Zeiss Optic’s Factory in Germany, and that many photos, and videos will follow over the coming few days. Seeing as I didn’t get an invite this time round, I will do my best to cover the tour right here on NokiaUsers.
Background - Carl Zeiss (September 11, 1816 – December 3, 1888) was an optician commonly known for the company he founded, Carl Zeiss Jena (now: Carl Zeiss AG). Zeiss made contributions to lens manufacturing that have aided the modern production of lenses. Raised in Weimar, Germany, he became a notable lens maker in the 1840s when he created high quality lenses that were “wide open”, or in other words, had a very large aperture range that allowed for very bright images.
He did this in the city of Jena at a self opened workshop, where he started his lens making career. At first his lenses were only used in the production of microscopes, but when cameras were invented, his company began manufacturing high quality lenses for cameras. Carl Zeiss Lenses have been used in many Nokia Handsets, dating back to the Nokia N73. See Table below for full Nokia device list, and what Carl Zeiss Optic’s were used.

The Nokia Nseries comprises the latest generation of multimedia computers which combines communication with many other features. Two of these are photography and video. Lenses from Carl Zeiss are used in the devices in the Nokia Nseries as listed above.
