LawCrunch: Some (more) ideas on why Nokia sued Apple

Posted under Editorials on Monday, 26 October 2009 by admin

As many of you are aware, Nokia filed a lawsuit against Apple last week in the Federal District Court in Delaware. Nokia’s complaint alleges that Apple has infringed on 10 of Nokia’s patents for various, “fundamental” GSM, UMTS and wireless LAN (WLAN) technologies.

Nokia patent app reveals dreams of pressure-sensitive multitouch interface

Posted under Editorials on Sunday, 25 October 2009 by jack

Filed under: Nokia, Misc Nokia’s no stranger to the patent application process here in the United States, and while we’ve certainly seen some strange ones emanating from its R&D labs, this one looks like something that should be implemented on the double. Explained as a “user interface for controlling an electronic device,” the multitouch solution would essentially allow you to pinch, zoom and rotate objects as usual, but it would also employ an array of pressure sensors in order to give your motions a sense of severity

Mugen Power - Premium Quality Batteries - The Search for N900 Extended Battery

Posted under Editorials on Saturday, 24 October 2009 by jack

If like myself, and you prefer to only to use OEM batteries for your Nokia devices, but really need a higher capacity mAh battery for your Nokia device, then you can’t go wrong with a Mugen Power replacement battery .  They are the closest battery to your OEM product in the terms of quality, and safety. Recently having received a Nokia N900 for testing purposes, it fast become clear that the supplied battery, the 1320mAh BL-5J (same found in the 5800), may not be up to the job.   Although I’m averaging between 7 to 10 hours out of a single charge, this differs greatly depending on the usage of course, be it using a lot of wifi connectivity, or 3G.  This is where I started scouring the Internet, looking for higher capacity batteries for the 5800, in the hope that I could find one, and keep the same form-factor of the original BL-5J, thus not having to resort to fitting an alternative battery cover.  Sadly, Nokia do not yet suppliy a higher capacity battery for the N900, but its just a matter of time until they are forced to do so.  thats my personal opinion

Nokia Takes Apple To Court. If You Can’t Beat ‘Em, Sue ‘Em.

Posted under Editorials on Thursday, 22 October 2009 by admin

Nokia has filed a compaint against Apple for infringing on its GSM, UMTS, and WiFi “standards,” which is as absolutely vague as it sounds. While Nokia states that forty vendors have licensed its patents in these areas there is no mention of the specific instances of infringement and, given that GSM, UMTS, and WiFi are the defacto standards for GSM-based phones across the board it’s hard to tell what Nokia’s real problem is here
