Samsung Application Store announced, the mobile mall gets a little more crowded

Posted under Editorials on Monday, 31 August 2009 by admin

Filed under: Software, Samsung, Announcements Oh, look, it’s another place to buy bite-sized mobile apps, this one courtesy of Samsung. The company isn’t exactly new to the whole application store thing, launching a little outlet for Nokia users earlier this year, but piggy-backing on someone else’s platform and boldly blazing a trail of iFart knockoffs on your own hardware are two very different things. The imaginatively named Samsung Application Store launches on September 14 for British, French, and Italian Omnia and I8910 HD handsets, later coming to the Omnia II and OmniaLITE as well as users in various other nations

An Introduction - Julien Fourgeaud from The Symbian Foundation

Posted under Editorials on Sunday, 30 August 2009 by jack

If like me, you were smitten with the Nokia N97 when first announced at Nokia World 2008, then you would of possibly also viewed many of the videos that surfaced from Nokia World, CES09, CTIA09 , and the Nokia Developer Summit , showing the N97 in action.  One, or two of these very popular videos showed Julien Fourgeaud demonstrating the N97 to Press members, and of course, Bloggers, who in turn, all asked Julien many questions about the N97, and what it could do.  You can still watch these videos here , and here . After personally watching these videos, I took it upon myself to track down Julien, and find out more about him, and his position at Nokia, which I found very very interesting.  I mean, working for Nokia, and showing off a prototype device to the public at an event such as Nokia World has to be a dream job no?  It certainly had me interested in finding out more.

New features and updates from ShoZu

Posted under Editorials on Saturday, 29 August 2009 by admin

Back in June this year, I wrote about the Shozu Application, and service becoming a paid for service .  ShoZu did indeed start out as a free application, and service, and since my last article, things have been a little quiet over at the ShoZu team, however, yesterday they released a very detailed Newsletter, detailing why it’s been quiet, and what exactly they have been upto during the transtion to a paid for service. They have been quite busy, and you may reconsider purchasing the ShoZu appplication when you learn of the new features it now hosts.  The ShoZu team have been taking on board the many suggestions, and recommendations from existing ShoZu users, on how to improve the application.  They have now implemented many of these new features, some  of which can be seen below, and by clicking “Read More”

Nokia Money wants some of what PayPal’s having

Posted under Editorials on Thursday, 27 August 2009 by admin

Filed under: Nokia A healthy percentage of Nokia’s revenue comes from emerging markets, and the company goes to great lengths to fill out the very bottom rungs of its lineup with devices to satisfy seemingly every need of every demographic — built-in flashlights, segmented contact lists for phones shared among family members, the list goes on — and now the company’s tackling another need by offering rudimentary banking and money transfer services by way of the handset. Noting that of the four billion cellphones in the world there are only 1.6 billion bank accounts, Nokia’s so-called Nokia Money service will bring electronic money management to some areas of the world for the first time — a customer need only know the phone number of the intended recipient to send a payment.

Filed under: Handsets, HTC, LG, Nokia, RIM, Samsung, Verizon Wireless We’ve heard about a good number of these phones were bound for Verizon Wireless already, but if this leaked doc via Boy Genius Report is to be believed, we now have a much better idea when they should be within reach of consumer hands. First up is Samsung Rogue for sometime this month (we previously heard today, but that’s looking very doubtful at this point) for an estimated $370 subsidized

Posted under Editorials on Saturday, 22 August 2009 by admin

Filed under: Handsets, Nokia The Garmin-Asus nuvifone is finally inbound to domestic retailers, but it’s taken so many wrong turns on the way that it’s given the competition plenty of time to catch up and prepare their own nav-enabled mobile offerings. TomTom’s iPhone kit is due any minute, and now Nokia is getting into the game, announcing the 5800 Navigation Edition. Instead of coming with music it comes with a pre-loaded copy of Ovi Maps and lifetime licenses for voice-guided driving and walking directions
