Nokia Music veep addresses slow Comes with Music sales in the UK

Posted under Editorials on Thursday, 30 April 2009 by admin

Filed under: Multimedia, Nokia After some rather disheartening (albeit unconfirmed) estimates last week that Nokia’s Comes with Music service had snagged only 23,000 subscribers in the United Kingdom, Rob Taylor, vice president of Nokia Music says that the company is pretty “happy” with what its learned there so far. He admitted that the UK launch (the service’s first) devices — the 5310 Xpress Music and the 8GB N95 — were “slightly out of date” at the time pointing out that the service was doing much better in subsequent markets, which all boast the 5800 as their hero device. Taylor said he also recognized that Nokia needed more retail partners to help move units, and that the company is not “giving up” on the UK as a market for CwM, adding that they’ll be bringing the 5800 there in the future.

While some phones stay true to a single flick (take Sony Ericsson handsets and any Bond movie ever , for example), some leap around Hollywood like a heiress on a booze binge. One example of the not so loyal

First off, the processor turns out to be a single-core ARM 11 putting along at 434MHz, just 65MHz faster than the 5800’s

Nokia throws up "pre-order soon" logo on US N97, drives the kids crazy

Nokia loses carrier billing for US Ovi Store launch

Posted under Editorials on Wednesday, 29 April 2009 by jack

Filed under: Software, Nokia Nokia needs to pull out all the heavy artillery — major device launches, carrier support, impressive software, and a seamless user experience — if it wants the Ovi Store to succeed on a grand scale, and by all accounts, they’re serious about making that happen with the recent integrations of MOSH and WidSets. Here’s the thing, though: for many, direct carrier billing could be a big part of that “seamless user experience” thing, and recognizing that, Nokia had planned to offer it from the get-go in the US (along with eight other countries) when it launches next month. That’s now been called off for the States for an undisclosed reason — carriers around here are notoriously finicky in their relationships with manufacturers and we wouldn’t be surprised if it all came down to a few heated boardroom discussions with the big wigs — but whatever the cause, users will need to roll with a less-integrated payment option to start.
